An Oklahoma City man was arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of coins from his employer.

Police were called to APMEX, an online precious metals trading company located in downtown Oklahoma City, Friday afternoon, in response to the alleged theft.

According to report, 34-year-old Ryan Garden, who works in quality control for the company, needed to get some products from another floor.  As part of company policy, Garden was required to be escorted by security. On the way, Garden told the security guard he needed to use the restroom.

While in the restroom, the security guard reported that he heard Garden make a “fake sneeze” and then heard rattling coming from the toilet paper holder.  The pair left the restroom and the security guard said Garden passed the room with which he said he needed to go.

Suspicious, the guard told police he returned to the restroom, and to the stall Garden had used. Security found seven 1-ounce gold buffalo coins concealed inside the toilet paper holder compartment.

The security guard reported the incident to another company official who in turn confronted Garden.  According to the report, when asked about the incident by the company official, Garden admitted to taking the coins off a co-worker’s desk.

The coins are valued at approximately $9,600, according to the company official.

Police officers were then called to the scene to arrest Garden. He was transported to the Oklahoma County Jail, and booked on one complaint of grand larceny.
