Store Dedicated To CBD Products Opens In Midwest City
MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma - Eastern Oklahoma County just welcomed the area's first store dedicated to selling cannabinoid-infused products.
Cann-Help Wellness opened its doors in Midwest City Friday, and the owners hope to battle the opioid epidemic in the state, one sale at a time.
With the state attorney general cracking down hard on pain clinics prescribing opioids, many patients are looking for an alternative. Cann-Help Wellness's owners say CBD is the answer, and their mission is personal.
Offering a variety of strengths and formulas for a variety of needs and ailments, Travis and Lori Evans believe CBD is the wave of the future.
“They’re creating opportunities for people to get their lives back and we’re just thankful to be part of that,” said Travis.
They know first-hand how painkiller dependency looks. Travis has had four back surgeries and was trapped in the fog of opioids until this January, when his friend and owner of Can Tek Labs, Ryan Early, offered him a dose of CBD.
“We started seeing the benefit right off,” said Travis, “and then I started noticing I could go longer between pain medicine doses and then I started to feel like the anxiety was releasing a little bit.”
It took him six weeks to get off of opioids completely. With a lack of regulations on the production of cannabinoid products, however, the Evanses and Early wanted to develop a process that can guarantee there is zero-percent of the psychoactive compound THC, ensuring that it is fully legal.
Travis said, “Our slogan is setting tomorrow’s standards today.”
Cann-Help's Oklahoma City-manufactured products are now shipping worldwide, including a line for pets, a line for consumers and a line of medical grade oils and balms, and their own local store is now open for business.
Lori said, “I think the word is finally getting out and people are finally letting go of those preconceived notions that it’s inherently bad.”
The hemp for these products is currently grown in Colorado, but Evans says the next step is getting legislation passed to grow the industrial hemp in Oklahoma, which would, in turn, grow the local economy.
Cann-Help Wellness is located at 2150 S Douglas Blvd in Midwest City. The hours are Tuesday-Friday 10-6, Saturday 9-2, and closed on Sunday and Monday.
