Jenks Crash Victims Laid To Rest

Friends and family are saying goodbye to a Jenks mother and her 10-year-old son, who died last week in a car crash. Funeral services for Erin Van Horn and her son Zachary were held Tuesday, July 25 in Edmond.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said they died when Erin's SUV slammed into the back of a semi in Purcell.

Another family is preparing to bury their loved ones Wednesday: funeral services for Lizzie Edwards, 13, and 11-year-old Beck Kitterman will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church.

While friends are family prepare to say goodbye, the victims are on the hearts and minds of Tulsans.

"They're never gonna be forgotten," said Povi Blankenship, a friend of Erin Van Horn's. Blankenship and others are reflecting on the Van Horn, Edwards and Kitterman families. Many have visited a memorial at All Star Sports Complex at East 61st Street and Highway 169.

Povi taught fitness classes with Erin.

"Every time I spoke to her, she spoke about her children," Povi said. "I'll always remember that about her."

Even though Erin's daughter Lauren is in a full body cast, she's persevering - with a smile on her face as she visits with friends.

We're told she was also able to go to her mom and brother's funeral but is back in the hospital with hopes of being released later this week.

Izzy Kitterman is in the hospital too, as her lungs improve. Kind words from friends and strangers - as far away as Michigan and Ohio - are making a difference.

Izzy's family is encouraging people to keep the love and prayers coming, because they help her gain momentum.

"Lots and lots of prayers," Povi Blankenship said. "I think that's the thing everybody can do, is just keep praying for the families that are mourning and the girls that are still in the hospital recovering."

With 11-year-old Beck Kitterman and 13-year-old Lizzie Edwards' funerals happening Wednesday, friends say that's what the families need most.

We've learned the McDonald's in Bixby at 121st and Memorial will donate 20 percent of its proceeds Thursday evening to the three families.
