We learned Tuesday that Lincoln Riley "hit it out of the park" in an interview for the Houston head coaching position.

I expected he’d be the primary target for the Cougars and that several other jobs would pursue OU’s extraordinarily gifted offensive coordinator.

That’s what led me to open our Blitz on Sunday night with my "Take" that OU should consider naming Riley its "Head Coach in Waiting."

Two things should be made very clear.

One, I believe Bob Stoops will and should remain OU’s head coach for several more years.

Two, I’m generally not a fan of the "Coach in Waiting" option, but I believe Riley to be so special that Oklahoma should do everything within its powers to keep Riley; for the short, and for the long haul. I’ve met and known hundreds of coaches – the best of the best.

I’ve said it quite a while now. Lincoln Riley is a rare breed of cat that doesn’t come along very often. At 33, the Sooners should do everything they can to protect themselves for now, and into the future.

Here’s My Take.
