A local pastor has been writing a series of short letters he intends to send to the next president from his church, Oakdale Baptist. They're good.

This is Justin Ford's latest:

"Dear Mr. or Mrs. President:
For the next four years, you will be reminded daily of our nation's obsession with approval ratings. We want to encourage you that there is something far more important than our approval.  We want you to lead us in a way that allows us to give you our respect. For us to respect you, there must be consistency between what you say and what you do."

And he goes on to say,

"Many people in our nation will never agree with you on how these issues should be addressed. There's very little you could ever do to change that.  What you must not do is anything that will lead us to wonder if you really believe what you say you believe about those issues. Our hope is that you will be a President whose actions reflect the promises you've made and the values you claim to hold, even if we don't always agree with them. If you can be this kind of President, you will ultimately have something far more valuable than our approval. You will have our respect."

Is their some sage advice you'd like to give to the next President of the United States?
