Police have identified the person struck and killed by a train in Norman early Monday morning as 33-year-old James Kenneth Irons.

First responders were called out to the scene, near James Garner Ave. and Jenkins Ave., just after 3 a.m.

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train engineer stated that he saw Irons lying in the middle of the tracks and began blowing the train’s horn. The engineer said at first Irons got up and moved aside. But as the train approached he said Irons jumped back in front and was hit.

The incident is still under investigation.
