A crossing guard and a 12-year-old boy were both injured when they were hit by a vehicle in front of the Spiro Public Schools early Tuesday.

Spiro Police Chief Michael Draper told KFSM, the CBS affiliate in Fort Smith, the accident happened at Denver and Broadway Street just before 7:30 a.m.

Chief Draper said the child was taken to a Fort Smith hospital with an injured shoulder and the 46-year-old crossing guard suffered a broken leg.

He says the driver who hit both stopped after the accident.

Chief Draper said the driver was cited and did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time, but the investigation is continuing.
