Sam Presti held his preseason news conference on the state of the Thunder on Wednesday. He fielded questions about the team’s mindset as it enters its first season without Kevin Durant and questions about contract situations but one of the more interesting answers came from a question about whether the team had enough shooting.

“You’d like to have a surplus of everything, on any team,” the ninth-year General Manager said. “Until we see the team and the style of play, until we identify what the creative limitations are with this particular roster, I think it’s going to be really hard to sit back and say we need to have this or we need to have that. It’s one thing to identify what you’d like to have and a completely different exercise to try to improve that based on what’s available. So, yeah, we’d like to have everything but until we know how this particular team is going to look and evolve it would be really hard for us to make a judgment on what we do or we don’t have.”

That’s a nice way of saying “no.” The Thunder’s best three-point shooters in terms of last year’s percentages (min. 1.0 attempt per game) are as follows: Anthony Morrow – .387, Ersan Ilyasova - .371 and Victor Oladipo - .348. The addition of rookie Alex Abrines should help, but counting on a first-year player to be able to fill a significant role right away is risky.

Presti says the only things he knows about this Thunder roster is that it’s physical and athletic.

“I do think we have a physicality to us, an athleticism to us and I think there’s a competitive spirit to this group that’s really fun to be around.”
