Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops announced Monday that redshirt freshman guard Cody Ford would be out for an extended amount of time after undergoing surgery on his broken leg on Sunday morning.

“Cody Ford was operated on Sunday morning and put a pin in his tibia, I believe it is, and will be out at least until the end of the season," Stoops said.

Ford sustained the injury in the first Sooners' drive of the game in the loss to Ohio State on Saturday. It was a huge loss for the Sooners, seeing the offense was thriving before Ford went down and had to be carted off. The Sooners appeared to lose momentum after the delay, and ultimately settled for an Austin Seibert field goal attempt that missed off the right post.

Ford started the first three games of the season at left guard for the Sooners, and it'll be interesting to see how the offensive line shapes up with his injury. Offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh's immediate reaction was to bump Jonathan Alvarez over to guard while inserting walk-on senior Erick Wren into the game at center, but we could see a different lineup since OU will have a bye week to get things figured out up front.

"They really actually played well, Erick did a really good job in there, not really surprising to us but they performed pretty well, really," Stoops said.

Losing a starter on offense is a big loss, but it was the only major injury on the day for OU.

“Everybody else is still probable for the next game, but that won’t be determined until next week," Stoops said.
