For mother of two, Jennifer Lowry's fear of violence in her neighborhood became all too real this Labor Day.
She said her Cherokee Terrace Apartments community was transformed into a crime scene.
“I seen there was a bunch of cops and people and stuff just all around,” Lowry said.
An 11-year-old boy was hit by the gunfire.
“It’s very upsetting no one wants to see an 11-year-old struck by gunfire,” Enid police Lt. Tim Jacobi said.
Police said the boy suffered two gunshot wounds, one to the hand and another to the shoulder.
He was taken to an Enid hospital and then OU Children's Hospital for treatment.
Lowry said she's saddened trying to explain the shooting to her 4- and 6-year-old children.
“Some person shot a little kid and stuff and I was like, you just don’t understand there’s bad people out there, not everybody is good and there are bad people who would do things like this,” she said.
But Lowry told News 9 this shooter, described as a white male wearing red and riding in a dark sedan is not your average person.
“I think they’re monsters and they should — something terrible should happen to them,” she said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (580) 233-6233 or text Enid police's anonymous tip line at 274637.
