Help is pouring in after a fire destroyed the Little Axe High School Field House on Monday. A non-profit group in Oklahoma City called “Cleats for Kids” is helping the team replace its gear before Thursday’s scrimmage and next week’s home opener.

The Field House caught on fire around 8:00 p.m. on Monday. This is where the players’ locker room is, so a lot of their expensive gear was burnt to ashes. Many of the players bought their practice gear on their own. The damage is estimated at $50,000.

Cleats for Kids has been collecting donations since they heard about the fire. On Tuesday, the coach of the Little Axe Football team already went to pick up a bucket of cleats and other donated items. More donations are flowing in, as they are trying to get all 50 players equipped.

Stacy McDaniel, Executive Director of Cleats for Kids, said, “We’re going to make another delivery before their scrimmage tomorrow. We hope to be able to have all the girdles and the cleats by then so they can play in their scrimmage.”

Football cleats, socks, practice pants, athletic shorts and t-shirts, compression shorts and shirts, and running or tennis shoes are the main focus. Monetary donations can also be brought to the Cleats for Kids office at 720 W. Wilshire Blvd., Suite 120, Oklahoma City.
