A redbud tree will be planted on Tuesday at the Oklahoma Department of Labor in honor of Labor Commissioner Mark Costello, who was stabbed and killed in front of an Oklahoma City restaurant a year ago.

Tuesday, August 23 marks the one-year anniversary of Mark Costello’s death. The Oklahoma Department of Labor wanted to recognize Costello. Together with the Department of Agriculture and the Commissioner of Forestry, they will be planting a redbud tree, the state tree, in Costello's honor at the Department of Labor at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The Department of Labor is located at 3017 N. Stiles, just north of the State Capitol between Lincoln and Santa Fe.

Costello's son, Christian Costello, is accused of stabbing his father to death at a Braum’s store in northwest Oklahoma City back on August 23, 2015.
