The Dodgers Are Dealing Again, Shut Out Iowa 7-0

Three OKC Dodgers pitchers combined for a 7-0 shutout win against the Iowa Cubs this afternoon at Principal Park.

The Dodgers closed out their series in Iowa with back-to-back shutout wins to earn a series split and pitch Oklahoma City’s first back-to-back shutouts since June 4-5, 2009 against Memphis in Oklahoma City.

Dodgers starting pitcher Trevor Oaks (4-1) pitched 7.1 scoreless innings, allowing six hits, walking one and recording three strikeouts in the win. Randy Choate retired the lone batter he faced in the eighth inning and Matt West held Iowa to one hit over the final 1.1 innings to close out the shutout.

O’Koyea Dickson jump-started Oklahoma City’s offense and went on to drive in three runs and scored two more.

Dickson hit a two-run shot to left field in the first inning before Corey Brown followed with a solo homer to center field for a 3-0 lead.

The back-to-back homers were the sixth of the season for the Dodgers and extended Oklahoma City (65-52) to an early 3-0 lead.

The Dodgers added four runs on six hits, including five straight, to build a 7-0 advantage in the sixth inning.

Dickson's RBI single off the wall in right field brought home Charlie Culberson for a 4-0 Dodgers lead.

Brown and Brandon Hicks both followed with singles to load the bases with one out for Jack Murphy, who hit a two-run single into left field for a 6-0 advantage. Alex Hassan then hit the Dodgers’ sixth hit of the inning, a RBI single, for a 7-0 lead.

Former Oklahoma City Dodgers pitcher Trevor Cahill, on rehab assignment from the Chicago Cubs, started for Iowa Wednesday and was charged with the loss. He allowed three runs and two hits with one walk and four strikeouts for 2.0 innings.

Wednesday marked the final meeting of the season between the American Northern Division teams and Iowa (51-68) won the season series, 9-7.

Oklahoma City’s wins Tuesday and Wednesday in Des Moines marked the team’s first back-to-back victories of August and the Dodgers improved to 13-13 in day games this season with Wednesday’s win.

The Dodgers have Thursday off before opening an eight-game homestand with a four-game series against the El Paso Chihuahuas at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The first 2,000 fans through the gates Friday will receive a Corey Seager bobblehead doll, presented by Topgolf. Gates open at 6 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled to follow the game.
