Norman police officers began field-testing body-worn cameras on Tuesday.
The police department deployed 12 body-worn cameras, beginning a three-week field-testing period. During the field test, officers from the patrol, traffic, and investigations divisions will try out body-worn cameras from three different vendors. The cameras represent different features available on the market as well as different management systems, according to police.
Police said officer feedback on each model of body-worn camera will be paired with over a year of research to select the vendor that will ultimately provide body-worn cameras for the department.
Once the vendor is selected, the department will begin working to purchase the equipment with a goal of having body-worn cameras for all officers by the end of the year.
