Five people and a dog escaped a house fire in southwest Oklahoma City, early Monday morning.

According to the fire department, just after 3 a.m., crews responded to a fire at a home in the 7400 block of Drexel Place. When they arrived, they reported seeing heavy flame coming from the front corner of the house.

Crews made their way inside the home to bring the blaze under control while conducting a search to see if anybody was still inside.  They later learned that everybody made it out of the home safely before firefighters arrived.

Fire officials said the homeowners were awakened by their smoke alarms, and everyone escaped safely.

The fire began in and was contained to a front bedroom of the home where an 18-year old was sleeping.  The fire was ruled accidental and appears to be electrical in nature.
