Shawnee police are investigating a shooting that injured a teenager outside a fast food restaurant early Thursday morning.

According to police, at about 4:13 a.m. officers responded to the report of a shooting outside a McDonald’s restaurant, located at 1211 N. Harrison in Shawnee. When officers arrived, they learned that a 16-year-old boy was shot in the right hand while standing outside the restaurant.

Officers described the suspect as an Indian or Hispanic male driving a gray car. He reportedly pulled up to the teenager and talked to him. Police said he then got out of the car, shot at the boy, and drove off northbound on Harrison.

Police said the victim was holding a cellphone, which the bullet struck first. The bullet then ricocheted and struck the boy’s hand.

The boy’s injuries are not life-threatening. Police continue to investigate the incident and look for the suspect.
