I can't help but be amazed at the “Pokemon Go” phenomenon that's sweeping the metro. What appears to many of us to be an enormous waste of time, wandering around the city staring at your cellphone waiting for virtual pocket monsters to pop up on the screen, has some very positive side effects.
News 9 was at the Bricktown Sonic Wednesday and the place was rockin' with customers, the manager said a lot of it was because Millennials were searching for Pokemon in the area.
Not just that, he said he was going to have to bring in extra staff this weekend because there could be thousands of Pokemon hunters downtown for a Facebook organized event.
These are people who might be staying at home otherwise.
The Oklahoma City National Memorial wisely embraced the trend when Pokemon hunters started showing up, they saw it as a way to expose them to Memorial and that dark time in our history. Plus, all of these people are getting exercise.
So, Pokemon hunters have fun and be safe.
On a side note, to the man who ordered lunch at the Sonic in Bricktown Wednesday, then walked over and gave an Oklahoma City police officer a Sonic Gift Card and said "Thank You", I saw you. Well done sir.
I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
