AT&T: 911 Service Back To Normal In Oklahoma Following Power Issue

The statewide 911 operating system is back to normal after being disabled due to a power issue Wednesday, AT&T officials said.

Enid police issued a statement Wednesday afternoon, saying the outage was caused by a power surge and major fiber line cut in the Oklahoma City area. Police say the system allows for these kinds of adjustments. Dispatchers can still receive calls that come in on the 911 lines and will transfer them to the appropriate response agencies as needed.

An AT&T Spokesperson said the power issue temporarily affected some calls Wednesday morning in Enid, Shawnee, and some other area emergency call centers. Affected centers rerouted calls and technicians quickly resolved the problem after isolating the power issue.

The AT&T Spokesperson said in a statement, "We place the highest priority on the safety of our customers and the communities we serve. We apologize for this disruption in service. We are still investigating the root cause that was related to a power issue in a facility in the Oklahoma City area. There was separate fiber cut outside of Oklahoma City that affected some local wireline and wireless customers, but was unrelated to the 911 issue. Call routing was affected for approximately two hours with the issue beginning shortly after 10 am and service being restored by 12:15 p.m."
