Police in Nicoma Park are trying to figure out who broke into a local liquor store and stole hundreds of dollars.

It was around 4 a.m. Thursday, that the burglar broke into “DP's Cutrate Liquor” right off of NE 23rd Street. It was a bold move in such a heavily trafficked area, according to police.

In its roughly 20 years of business, manager John Bell said this is the first time DP's Cutrate Liquor has had a break-in.

But they were ready for anything. There are more than a dozen cameras in and out of the store. And on Thursday, they caught a man shattering the front glass door with a concrete rock and run inside straight to the cash registers.

In the video surveillance footage, he is seen struggling for several seconds and has no luck with prying or pressing buttons.

Eventually he gets it open and reportedly takes hundreds of dollars. Police said he did all this in less than a minute.

“He has obviously been there before and knows the store,” said Sgt. John Greene with Nicoma Police Department.

Investigators said the burglar appears to be a black male, wearing a white shirt, gray pants and hat. They said he could be in his late 30’s or 40’s and has recognizable creases in his face and possible graying.

“You can fool a lot of things, but you can’t fool a camera. So the video evidence is it. There’s really no arguing it,” Sgt. Greene said.

Police said the man took off on foot after the burglary and was still on the loose Friday night.

“A little bit of money is going to put you in jail for a long time – it’s not worth it,” said Bell. “We’re hard workers here and I think you should work for everything you have.”

If you have any information about the man in the video, call 405-769-5674.
