Tonkawa police are looking for a suspect who drove away after firing shots at an officer during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.

According to police, just after 2:30 a.m., a Tonkawa police officer tried to pull over a vehicle at Interstate 35 and Highway 60. The vehicle stopped about a mile south on I-35. That’s where shots were exchanged.

Police said the officer was not hit by the gunshots. There are no known injuries at this time. A pursuit ensued that traveled south into Noble County, where the vehicle was lost.

The vehicle was described as a dark green or black small to mid-size extended cab pickup, possibly a Nissan, Toyota, or Isuzu. The truck was lowered and had dark tail light covers and a defective tag light. The letters NLM or NIM were painted in red on the right side of the tailgate.

The vehicle was driven by a tall, lanky white male who stands about 6 feet tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He has short wavy brown hair and a small amount of brown chin hair. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone having any information about the vehicle or driver is encouraged to call the Tonkawa Police Department or the Kay County Sheriff’s Office.
