Walters Whacks Walk-Off Homer In Dodgers Victory

Zach Walters drilled a solo home run down the left field line for a 6-5 walk-off win for the Oklahoma City Dodgers against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Walters stepped up to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and sent a line drive between the foul pole and Budweiser Deck for his eighth homer of the season and the Dodgers’ second walk-off win of 2016 in front of a crowd of 3,741.

Walters finished the night 4-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored as he collected his second four-hit game of the season.

The Dodgers won a season-best sixth straight game and took a 2-0 lead in their three-game series against the Sky Sox. They also improved their season record to 48-36, moving a season-high 12 games above .500.

Oklahoma City built a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning before Colorado Springs came back and tied the game, 5-5, in the seventh inning.

The Sky Sox (41-41) took the first lead of the game.

Kyle Wren and Josmil Pinto singled in the first inning before Nate Orf hit a RBI double into right field to score Wren for a 1-0 Sky Sox lead. Pinto also tried to score on the play, but was thrown out at the plate.

Rob Segedin moved into a tie for the league lead with his eighth triple of the season in the bottom of the first inning to bring home two runs and give Oklahoma City a 2-1 lead.

Cole Figueroa followed with a RBI single to build a 3-1 Dodgers advantage.

The Dodgers added two more runs in the fifth inning with two outs.

A RBI single to center field by James Ramsey gave Oklahoma City a 4-1 lead. Jack Murphy followed with a single into center field to bring home another run for the Dodgers and a 5-1 lead.

Colorado Springs started its comeback in the top of the sixth inning.

A two-run double by former Oklahoma City Dodger Andy Wilkins into center field cut Oklahoma City’s lead to 5-3.

A RBI triple into center field in the seventh inning by Colorado Springs’ Keon Broxton cut Oklahoma City’s lead to 5-4. Broxton then scored on a sacrifice fly by Eric Young Jr. to tie the game, 5-5.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the ninth inning.

Andrew Toles struck out swinging and Charlie Culberson grounded out for the first two outs before Walters hit the game-winning home run.

Dodgers starting pitcher Brock Stewart returned to Oklahoma City after making his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He allowed three runs and five hits over 6.0 innings with one walk and six strikeouts.

He retired 12 straight Sky Sox batters from the second through fifth innings before the Sky Sox scored twice in the top of the sixth inning.

Matt West pitched the seventh and eighth innings, allowing two runs and two hits.

Jacob Rhame (1-4) retired all three batters he faced in the top of the ninth inning via strikeout for his first win of the season.

Colorado Springs starting pitcher Tyler Cravy allowed five runs and nine hits over 4.2 innings in a no decision. Austin Ross (4-2) entered the game to pitch in the ninth inning and was charged with the loss.

The Dodgers racked up 12 hits from eight different players as they collected at least 10 hits in a sixth straight game.

The series between the teams concludes at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
