My 2 Cents: Limited Constitutional Carry Bill

You may recall I was not a fan of the open carry act when it was being considered. In retrospect my concerns have been unfounded, so far.

But, I now have similar concerns about the so-called Limited Constitutional Carry Bill, that would allow law abiding Oklahomans to carry a gun, out in the open, without a permit. If police and troopers are against it, and many are, then it's a red flag for me.

Carrying a firearm is not just a right, it is a responsibility, and part of what you learn when you take a concealed carry class is when and under what circumstances you are within your rights to use your weapon to protect yourself or others. The instructors also make sure you have a basic knowledge of how to load and handle your weapon without accidentally shooting yourself or someone else.

To get a permit you have to undergo a background check, and I'm for that, although the constitutionalists would argue that's infringing upon our second amendment right to bear arms, and they say criminals are going to carry guns without permits anyway, true.

But there's a real benefit for the community in the training that goes into an Oklahoman getting a carry permit, and I think we should continue to require it
