The video sent to News 9 by a student was 1 minute and 21 seconds long. It started with some cursing and screaming and 37 seconds in, one student starts punching another student in the head.

Nine punches later, a junior at Edmond High School steps into the video screaming, “Hey! That is not okay! Walk away, walk away, walk away!”

The junior’s name is Ashley Silvers. She said the two involved in the fight were in class arguing, but she didn’t realize the situation would escalate to a physical fight. The punching started while a group of students were walking back to the main building on campus.

“There was no reason for him to physically hurt somebody like that. The guy wasn’t even fighting back. He went limp,” said Silvers. She said the victim was bleeding out of his mouth and police confirm he has a fractured facial bone.

“I was infuriated. I was shaking with adrenaline,” said Silvers. Even if there were inappropriate comments made, she said physical contact should have never happened.

The problem Silvers sees the most is how many people were standing there filming the fight instead of separating the two. She was yards away and had to weave between other students to get there.

She said, “I didn’t do anything courageous or special. I just took a stand when it was needed.”

News 9 spoke to the victim’s father. He said his son is doing okay considering the situation and is recovering. A statement from the victim reads: I would like to personally thank the student who courageously stepped in to help break up the attack.”

The suspect was arrested after the fight on Tuesday, but released to his parents, according to Edmond Police Department. The Oklahoma County Juvenile District Attorney is handling his case and will file for aggravated assault and battery. It is unclear whether he will be charged as an adult or a child.’
