Several Universities, Including OU, Cancel Evening Classes, Activities Due To Severe Weather

<p>Oklahoma City Public Schools have canceled all after-school activities for Tuesday, and schools will let out 30 minutes early. School buses will be running 30 minutes early.&nbsp;</p>

Several Oklahoma schools have canceled all classes and activities Tuesday due to the possibility of severe weather.

Oklahoma City University and University of Central Oklahoma will close early at 4 p.m. Tuesday. All classes and activities have been canceled. 

Classes, exams, and evening activities beginning at 4:15 p.m. or later on Tuesday on the OU Norman campus are canceled. 

Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma, has canceled classes scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday or later. Finals that were set to take place Tuesday evening will be rescheduled.

Enid Public Schools canceled all evening classes and after-school activities on Tuesday. 

Bridge Creek Public Schools canceled all evening classes and activities on Tuesday. The district will be releasing students early and running buses at 1:30 p.m. 

Yukon Public Schools canceled all after-school activities and events on Tuesday. All students will be released at normal dismissal times. 

Moore Public Schools canceled all after-school and night-time activities, and schools will dismiss 30 minutes early. 

Putnam City Schools canceled all after-school and evening activities for Tuesday due to the potential of severe storms and hail.

Union City Public Schools will close at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in preparation for the predicted severe weather later in the afternoon. School officials said the prediction of storms beginning about 2 p.m. in west central Oklahoma would put the students out in the weather during afternoon dismissal.

The Union City Police and Fire Departments will be on duty and prepared to respond Tuesday afternoon and evening as well.

Officials with the Deer Creek School District are allowing parents to check out their student(s) without penalty of an absence beginning at 2 p.m.. This will allow for enough time for parents to reach multiple school sites if needed and to get homely safely. As stated in the Deer Creek Inclement Plan and Procedures (emailed) buses will run at the normal times as it is unsafe to run them early risking dropping off young students at home to an empty or locked house.

Edmond Public Schools have also canceled after-school activities and athletics. 

Heritage College, located at 7202 S. I-35 Service Rd. in Oklahoma City, is closing early at 12:30 p.m. 

Mid-Del Schools Districts released a statement via Twitter Monday and said the first step in their three-point tornado plan is to cancel school if the district has prior notice of severe weather.

The district is not required to add an additional day due to Tuesday's cancellation. The three-step tornado plan was formed shortly after the EF-5 tornado in 2013 that tore through two Moore elementary schools, killing seven children.

More school districts have also canceled school for the day. Paoli and Whitebead have closed for the day. Bray-Doyle will have an early release at 12:30 p.m. and Piedmont schools will allow parents to pick up their students early.

Officials with Anadarko Public Schools said they will remain on high weather alert on Tuesday. They have canceled all after school programs, all athletic events, and the High School evening Academy classes. They are also keeping all Middle School and High School PE and athletic classes in the buildings.

Parents can check Their children out early from school on inclement weather days if they chooses to, according to officials.
