Neighbors Speak Out After Arrests In Seminole Missing Boy Case

A cold case is reopened, and after a decade two arrests have been made in the disappearance of Colton Clark.

Colton vanished back in 2006 when he was just 9-years-old, but the case was reopened this past September. The boy's aunt and uncle, Rex and Rebecca Clark, were arrested. They were his adoptive parents. 

"I remember what a painful, painstaking investigation it was at the time and how disappointing it was that we weren't able to resolve it," Seminole County Assistant District Attorney Paul Smith said.  

But now, 10 years later, not one but two arrests have been made and the evidence is somewhere on Clark's five-acre farm.

"Swat and the police and everyone was over there arresting both the man and the woman," neighbor Jennifer Cox said. 

Early Friday morning, authorities took the Clarks into custody. A judge signed off on their arrests warrants afterhours Thursday, as well as a search warrant to comb their property. 

"We've been watching them probe the yard with big probes and when they hit something metal, which to me sounds like they're hitting a metal barrel in the ground," Jennifer Cox said.

Back in 2006, when Colton went missing, investigators worked the case mostly as a runaway or a missing person investigation, but there were always questions. They reopened the case last fall and now search for remains and evidence. 

"Among those things are unfortunately things related to the investigation of a homicide, potential homicide," Smith said. 

Anthropologists, the medical examiner, the OSBI - it takes an army to piece together a puzzle 10 years in the making.  

"As a parent and a grandparent I can't imagine what this family had to go through with this child missing all these years. And what breaks my heart even more is, what did this child go through?" neighbor Sheila Cox said. 

The Clarks bail is set at $3 million each, and they're suspected of child abuse allegations as well as allegations of conspiracy.
