It was one year ago this week that a young Oklahoma family was killed by a drunk driver. To honor that family and with hopes of saving others, Oklahoma County Sheriff deputies held a DUI checkpoint at Reno and Rockwell.

The checkpoint started at 10 p.m. Wednesday and ended at midnight. And in just those two hours, at one location, the number of arrests and tickets is alarming.

The Sheriff told us they made four DUI arrests, three of which alcohol-related. They also made one felony warrant arrest, handed out 10 tickets, over 12 warnings and even impounded eight vehicles. Again, this is all just over a two hour span.

All this was done in honor of a young family killed this time last year in a wreck with a drunk driver at this very same location. And while the checkpoint was underway, the family of Shannon West, Jason Fields and their daughter Ruby held a candlelight vigil.

"It's our responsibility. Your child, you can be out, you can perfectly sober, following the laws and someone that is drinking, doing drugs, texting can kill you, it's everybody's responsibility to keep each other and yourself safe," said La Jan Fields, mother of one of the victims.
