A 58-year-old disabled veteran who has been living out of a neighbor’s car got a big boost this past weekend.

Keith Stewart lived in the same southeast Oklahoma City house his grandmother used to own.

However, a fire severely damaged the home on January 1, and Stewart has been homeless since.

This past Saturday, however, volunteers with UCO, The Red Cross and a Goodwill outreach organization called Supportive Service for Veteran Families cleared the front property of the home of debris.

Goodwill Case Manager Derek Jump said his organization has found Stewart an apartment to live in, and will soon get him into a Food Stamp Program.

“We would love to partner with somebody that could help us demolish the house and rebuild it, so he doesn’t have to walk away from a house that’s been handed from his grandmother and mother,” he said.

Jump said he’s also working to get Stewart the VA benefits he’s entitled to.
