Authorities: Two Children Died In Northeast OKC House Fire

Authorities confirm two children have died in a house fire in northeast Oklahoma City, Tuesday morning.

According to the fire department, just after 9:30 a.m., crews responded to the fire at a home in the 1200 block of N.E. 47th Street. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames coming out of the front of the home.  Firefighters had information that the children should be in a front bedroom in the southeast corner of the home.  Officials immediately sent a crew into that bedroom through a window.  But the children were not located in that bedroom. 

Crews continued to fight the fire while searching the home for the children.  Two young boys were ultimately discovered in a bathroom in another area of the home.  They did not survive the fire. 

Fire officials told News 9 that four people, a mother, grandmother and two children, were inside the home when it caught on fire. The mother was able to help the grandmother, who was wheelchair-bound, escape the fire. She tried to go back inside the home to get the children, but the fire was too hot to go back inside. 

Fire investigators said the cause of the fire was ruled accidental. The fire started in a bedroom and appeared to have quickly spread to the attic.

The mother was taken to the hospital, suffering from minor burns. The grandmother was also taken to the hospital to be checked out. But officials said she wasn't injured. 

The Medical Examiner will ultimately identify the children once the investigation is complete, fire officials said.
