Police in Warr Acres are looking for a man who stole from a pawn shop. The suspect didn’t steal merchandise, but took something that belonged to an employee and walked out the door.

Working in a pawn shop, these guys see a lot of things. The merchandise around here is evidence of that, and often times, so is the company surveillance video when it caught a man walk right up to the counter and sneak off with Tyler Potts' iPad. And, the man in the patterned pants never even got off the phone to do it.

“Right after he stole it, he went out the door, and I crossed him. We crossed each other as I was coming in, and he was leaving,” Potts said. “I didn’t even know it.”

He did not know it until after watching the video.

“He kind of smiled, and I said, ‘Hello,’” Potts said. “We walked past each other. I had been here about 10 minutes and was looking for my iPad. I use it all the time. I had everything on it.”

Tyler immediately contacted Apple.

“Right after that happened I went onto the computer in my office and started changing all my passwords,” he said.

By law pawn shops have to record serial numbers of electronics. Tyler knows this firsthand. Not only does he log them for work, he wrote his own down, too.

“As long as we have the serial number for anything we can enter it into the national computer, and if any officer runs that serial number it will automatically get a hit and notify us,” Potts said.

News 9 contacted Apple, and they say you can track down a stolen device using “Find my iPhone” when you log into iCloud, if your device is registered. However, the device has to be powered on.

You can also turn on an erasing mode so the next time your device is turned on it will automatically erase everything. There are also third party apps.

As for Tyler, it's now a waiting game.

The suspect left in a gray or silver Nissan or Lexus car driven by a white female. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Warr Acres Police Department. (405) 789-3329.
