Tulsa police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy at a home near 91st and Delaware.

Police were called to a home near 88th and South Evanston around 2:00 Tuesday afternoon after the boy’s mother called 911, saying the child was dead.

When emergency crews arrived, they tried to revive the boy but couldn’t.

Police are investigating the case as a homicide. They said bruises were found on the boy’s face and body, but haven’t determined if the bruising contributed to his death.

The child's mother and her boyfriend were the only adults at home at the time; both were taken in for questioning. They were released after being interviewed.

With crime scene tape going up, neighbors knew something horrible had happened next door, but were shocked to hear it was the death of a 2-year-old boy.

"Immediately started crying. My neighbor over there started crying," said neighbor Shirley Harlan.

She lives near the crime scene and said the sound of emergency sirens brought her outside.

"First, I thought, ‘I hope no criminal act had happened,’" she said.

One neighbor said, "I just feel sick. You don't have this type of army showing up at a house if something radical, if something is OK. Something radically is wrong over there."

When the body was discovered, the mother, her boyfriend and one other child were home.

Another neighbor said she kept an eye on the surviving child while police investigated.

"I just brought her over for a little while. I have toys for my grandchildren and I got her a sandwich and we played Barbies," she said.

Harlan said child victim stories are getting too common.

“I hope the people are held responsible, and I hope this drives us to do something to fix what's happening now. And this happens too often in the news. We hear this too often. We shouldn't hear this," she said.

So far no one has been arrested.

In all, six children were living in the home with the two adults. Police say the other children have been placed with family members.
