Top-Ranked Sooners Host TCU On Tuesday

Oklahoma will face a challenge on Tuesday night when they host TCU on Tuesday night inside of the Lloyd Noble Center, and it isn’t a challenge that they face in most games. No. 1 OU is coming off of a highly anticipated road victory over LSU on Saturday, so coming back home to face a Horned Frogs team that sits in dead last of the Big 12 standings could be a tricky situation for the crimson in cream.

It would be unlikely, but the Sooners will need to make sure they don’t overlook TCU on Tuesday (7 p.m.) just because the matchup doesn’t bring quite the intrigue that other recent games have brought to the table. OU fans have had the luxury of witnessing premiere basketball all season long, and have seen their team play against some of the top talent in the nation.

Seeing the Sooners have battled with teams such as Memphis, Kansas, Villanova, ISU, WVU, Baylor and Wisconsin, a team like TCU could be one of the lesser teams Oklahoma has seen all season, which could spell a recipe for disaster if Lon Kruger’s team thinks they can coast to a victory.

In an elite conference like the Big 12, it’s not rare to see upsets of this magnitude happen. In fact, Oklahoma State currently sits second to last in the conference rankings, and the Cowboys almost pulled off the feat of taking down the Sooners a couple of weeks ago in Stillwater.

The Horned Frogs snapped their five-game losing streak when they took down Tennessee on Saturday, and they’ll be looking to get a better footing in their second half of Big 12 play.

Malique Trent is a talent and the Horned Frogs best playmaker with an 11.4 points per game average to go with 2.9 assists—both team highs. Trent scored 14 points in the second half in the Horned Frogs’ win over the Volunteers.

Both Vladimir Brodziansky and Chauncey Collins average just over 10.5 points while both players are capable of knocking down the three-ball. Karviar Shepherd, Brandon Parrish and Chris Washburn are all impactful players for TCU, but the Horned Frogs don’t necessarily have anyone on the roster that can keep up with the high-octane offense of Buddy Hield and the Sooners.

Oklahoma not only has Hield who can catch fire, but Isaiah Cousins and Jordan Woodard are more than capable of pouring in points on a consistent basis. In the win over Tennessee, the Horned Frogs shot 62.5 percent in the second half from behind the arc, and TCU will have to have a similar performance to compete with OU on Tuesday.

This will be the first of two times these two teams square off, with the next matchup coming on March 5 in Fort Worth.
