OU backup quarterback Cody Thomas will be leaving the football team to focus on baseball full-time, according to SoonerScoop.com.

Thomas was drafted by the New York Yankees out of high school, and played 14 games for the OU baseball team back in 2013.

Thomas’s departure makes him the second OU quarterback to leave the team since the end of the season, with senior Trevor Knight transferring to Texas A&M. That will leave Baker Mayfield, newcomer Austin Kendall and walk ons Connor McGinnis and Reece Clark as the only quarterbacks who’re eligible to play next season.

OU did have former five-star quarterback Kyler Murray transfer into the program, but he won’t be eligible to play until the 2017 season. The signing of Kendall along with Murray’s arrival could be some of the many reasons Thomas decided to focus solely on baseball.
