Edmond North Wrestler Beats The Odds

An Edmond North High School wrestler whose legs were amputated after a staph infection seven years ago said he doesn’t feel like a victim. 

17-year-old Justice Antwine has won nine matches so far this season. 

He just took up wrestling two years ago. 

His coach Andy Schneider said Antwine’s been an inspiration to everyone, not only because he doesn’t have any legs, but because he’s only 80 pounds. 

He gives away at least 25 pounds to every opponent he wrestles.  He said he was drawn to wrestling for the camaraderie. 

“If I lose a match, they all come up to me and hug me and say I love you, you did a good job out there. That means something. Yes,” he said. 

Antwine is also an outstanding wheelchair basketball player. 

In fact, he says he’s in the running for a scholarship to play that sport and attend Arizona State University. 

Antwine is the youngest of eight children in his family. 

He said he draws his strength from his mother. 

“I just want to tell her thank you for, um, the opportunity, for everything in my life and putting clothes on my back,” he said.
