As the investigation into a murder last week continues, the ex-girlfriend of the victim said there’s more to the story.

Investigators said 28-year-old Tyler Wesnidge was stabbed to death and left in rural McClain County.

Police said his girlfriend, 28-year-old Misty Benefield, told them that she was being abused by Wesnidge.

Investigators think Benefield and her friend, 25-year-old David Seeley, hatched a plan to take Wesnidge out into the woods, scare him, then leave him there while Benefield moved out.

But police said Wesnidge fought back, and Seeley stabbed him several times, killing him.

Wesnidge's ex-girlfriend, Cheyanne Tomblin, doesn’t believe it.

“I was appalled," she said. “Honestly appalled when I saw that it was domestic violence that she was alleging is what caused that. There’s no way.”

Tomblin said she dated Wesnidge for a few months and he never abused her.

“Oh, absolutely not,” she said. “I mean, I don’t think when him and me were together that he ever even raised his voice to me."

Tomblin said Benefield got Wesnidge hooked on drugs and involved with dangerous people.

She said she felt it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

“He was such a kind, loving soul. He was one of the most gentle people that I’ve ever met,” Tomblin said. “The fact that that beautiful flame of life was extinguished so violently, it just, it destroys me.”

Seeley has been charged with murder.

Benefield has not been charged yet, but the sheriff in McClain County said that could change as the investigation progresses.
