Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was a finalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, but was beaten out by Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The award is given to the best quarterback in the country and was presented on the College Football Home Depot Award Show in Atlanta, GA.

Watson won the award after totaling 3,512 yards and 30 touchdowns while leading Clemson to an undefeated season. In comparison, Mayfield totaled 3,389 yards and 35 touchdowns during OU’s 12-1 season. TCU’s Trevone Boykin was also up for the award.

Mayfield will have a chance to make his case for the award on December 31, when his Sooners play against Watson’s Tigers in the Orange Bowl.
