A shooting led to a standoff as the suspect took off while the victim ran to a neighbor for help.

The suspect, Jason Rogers, told police he and the victim were just playing around early Sunday morning when the semiautomatic gun went off. Rogers said the victim was shot in the face.

It started with a knock on the door of a home on South 8th Street in Chickasha. No one answered when News 9 tried to reach out.

Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, police say someone inside this home knew Rogers and let him in.

According to the victim, the two men are acquaintances. But during that visit, Chickasha police said Rogers fired a semiautomatic pistol once at the man known to neighbors as Chris.

Rogers was pushed out of the home then took off while Chris ran next door for help.

“I heard banging and my mom heard it. And she came and got me and I called 911,” said Desiree Keenan. “He just kept saying ‘help me, help me I’ve been shot’”.

Keenan's mother covered the injured neighbor with a blanket while waiting for EMS. Once at the hospital, a witness identified Rogers to investigators as the shooter.

After a brief standoff a couple blocks away from the shooting scene, police arrested Rogers that same day.

During his interview with police, Rogers told investigators the shooting was an accident.

Rogers is in the Grady County jail on a complaint of shooting with intent to kill.

The victim is recovering.
