Downed power lines caused the highway closures for Interstate 40 near Mustang Road and the Kilpatrick Turnpike.

The northbound lanes of the turnpike was shut down just north of I-40.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said power lines were draped on across I-40. Some vehicles tried to drive over, around and under them, a News 9 producer said.

The interstate was shut down in both directions. Traffic was being diverted off I-40 westbound at Morgan Road and I-40 eastbound at Mustang Road.

Avoid the area if possible.
