Gas prices are going up across the metro and experts say they could spike another 10 to 20 cents over the next week. So what's causing the sudden price increase?

Price-tracking site Gas Buddy shows the average price per gallon in the Oklahoma City Metro is up 14 cents from a week ago. On Wednesday, the average in Oklahoma City is $2.27 a gallon, but some stations offer a gallon of regular gas for as high as $2.75.

AAA says there is a recent, unusually high demand spike, at a time of year when demand usually drops. Every year around this time, oil refineries do routine maintenance shutdowns, so that's not a surprise.

But the combination of this demand spike and scheduled refinery maintenance is causing this bump. A AAA Oklahoma spokesperson says he hopes this price increase is temporary, but Gas Buddy is forecasting a possible 20 cent rise across Oklahoma this week

Not everyone has raised their prices just yet. Gas Buddy is reporting a few places are still at $1.99 a gallon, like the Sinclair Station on Meridian and Will Rogers Parkway.
