Stuffy nose, sneezing, and watery eyes -- sounds like you right now? Rest assured you are not alone. We are in the middle of possibly the worst ragweed season of all time, and it's just what scientists predicted.

In February, a doctor with the Official Allergy Count of the Midwest at Loyola University Hospital said ragweed will make a late summer push and be worse than ever before. It's because of the cooler spring and the extremely wet summer, which we all remember in June.

The rain has actually caused the weeds to grow tremendously, and may even extend the allergy season past its typical late-September end. So here are some tips the doctor recommends,

  • Take your over the counter allergy medicine on a regular basis. It takes 24 or sometimes 48 hours for medicine to work properly, so even take the medicine after it rains.
  • There are things you can do at home. Keep windows shut tightly and you may want to shower before bed to wash off any triggers that might be on your skin.
  • One more tip, if symptoms continue to worsen, you might consider an allergy shot which would stop seasonal irritation for good.
