When you buy something with a "lifetime warranty,"  you expect it's going to last a lifetime. However, customers and retailers don't always agree.

Jimmy Ip bought a lifetime warranty for his "Just Blinds." But when he contacted the company for a repair, he found his warranty was only good for five years.

That's what the company said is an average lifetime for blinds. Ip had his for seven years.

"A lifetime warranty cannot mean just five years. Because that would be a five year warranty, not a life time warranty," said Edgar Dworsky, a Consumer Advocate.

Consumer Advocate Edward Dworsky said if a company uses the term "lifetime" they must define what that means. He also suggests looking at each line in the paperwork  for changes in the warranty after a certain amount of time.
