A Wagoner Police officer hit a pedestrian on Highway 51 early Saturday morning. The officer was driving eastbound Highway 51 at Mockingbird Lane in Wagoner around 2:30 a.m. when he hit the pedestrian.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say Lyle Hoop, 54, is in critical condition after being struck by the patrol vehicle. He sustained head and other injuries.

Investigating troopers say the officer, 27-year-old Robert Evans, was eastbound on the highway, and Hoop was crossing northbound. The area is in Wagoner city limits but is not well lighted. It's just west of the intersection with Highway 69.

Evans, who was in apparently normal condition at the time of the wreck, was not injured, a collision report states.

OHP is investigating the collision.
