Police in Lawton are alerting the public, specifically soldiers, about a scammer in the area.

According to police, the suspect has been targeting soldiers over the past six months at Central Mall, Wal-Mart and Hastings, claiming to be a fellow solider.

The suspect, who is believed to have served in the military in the past, always pretends to outrank whomever he is trying to scam in an effort to “order” them around.

Police say he asks for rides to get his vehicle out of impound. Then after being taken to the impound lot, comes up with a story about his card not working or some other fabrication just to scam money from his victims.

According to police, the suspect always promises to pay the victims back, sometimes even saying he’ll give them double what he owes. The scam usually lasts a few days, until the victims catches on and realize they’ve been duped.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, approximately 37 years old, 5’ 8” tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He has very short hair with a receded hairline, with brown hair and brown eyes. His first name is “Willie”.

If you have any information about the case, you are asked contact police immediately.
