We now know what led to an officer-involved shooting near NE 24th and Lottie.

Police said the man they took down, repeatedly raped a woman Tuesday night.

Police told News 9 the suspect was tazed and he still continued to lunge toward officers. The man was accused of holding a woman against her will and raping her multiple times.

The Oklahoma City Police received a call about a rape after the victim showed up at an area hospital.

When officers went to talk to the victim, she gave them information describing a suspect and a location where she said the rape occurred.

That led officers to a home at Northeast 24th and Lottie.

“They were able to find a person controlling the resident, that person allowed them access inside the house to make sure that a suspect was still in the house,” said Capt. Paco Balderrama, OCPD.

But during the search, officers spotted a man hiding underneath a bed armed with a knife. The suspect didn't want to surrender.

“At some point the person grabbed the knife, and came towards officers,” said Balderrama.

Police said the suspect was tazed at least once, but that didn't work. The man continued to lunge toward officers with the knife in hand.

“That’s when the other officers discharged their weapons striking the suspect,” said Balderrama.

Police believe there were at least two shots fired. The suspect died inside the home.

There were at least four officers inside the home at the time of the shooting.

The officers involved will be on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
