Former OU All-American Named Assistant Gymnastics Coach

Former Oklahoma All-American Steven Legendre has been named an assistant coach for the Oklahoma men’s gymnastics team.

OU coach Mark Williams announced the hiring Thursday.

"I'm excited about adding Steven Legendre to the men's gymnastics coaching staff," Williams said, who has directed OU to six national titles in his 16 seasons as head coach. "He has continued to train with our program since his graduation in 2011. Steve brings a wealth of experience and amazing credentials to my staff. With his help, I look forward to continuing to build on the success of the Sooner gymnastics program."

During his time at OU, Legendre won six individual national titles and was named an All-American 12 times.

the all-around and on floor and high bar, upping his all-time All-America awards count to 12.

"It is truly a blessing and an honor to not only have had the opportunity to be a part of the Sooner family as an athlete, but now to join the other side as a coach," Legendre said. "I look forward to working hard with the team each and every day to help continue our tradition of excellence and winning national championships.

"As somebody who has recently lived the life of an OU student-athlete, I feel I can offer a unique perspective and knowledge resource to the team to help them reach their maximum potential, both inside the gym and outside."

Legendre has also enjoyed recent success with the U.S. National Team. On top of being an alternate for the 2012 Olympic Team, Legendre twice served as U.S. team captain at the World Championships.

Most recently, Legendre participated in the 2015 Winter Cup Challenge, winning the floor championship, earning silver medals in all-around and vault and winning a bronze on still rings.
