Duncan Man Arrested In Undercover Child Sex Sting

A Duncan man was arrested for child sex crimes in what turned out to be another undercover sting set up by the Canadian County Sheriff’s office.

Deputies arrested 30-year-old Brandon Downey on Tuesday after about two months of dialogue. It started in early May, when investigators say Downey Facebook friend requested an undercover profile belonging to the sheriff department’s Internet Crimes Against Children division.

According to the report, Downey, believing he was speaking with a 14-year-old girl, began sending sexually explicit messages. The tawdry communication continued from there, and by June deputies say Downey had become so comfortable with the “relationship” that he “called the undercover deputy’s phone and masturbated during phone sex with a female deputy that he believed to be the 14-year-old Yukon girl.”

Investigators say, although they positively identified Downey, it took weeks to locate him because he lived with his grandmother, had no personal assets and was unemployed.

During his arrest, investigators say Downey offered a full confession. He was booked into the Canadian County Jail on three counts of Facilitating Sex with a Minor by Use of Technology. His bond was set at $150,000.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that we’ve prevented an innocent child from being victimized by this man, and Oklahoma is a safer place for kids to live because of his arrest,” said Canadian County Sheriff Randall Edwards.

The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office works its Internet Crimes Against Children program as Task Force Members of the Oklahoma State Bureau Investigation (OSBI), and is assisted by the United States Secret Service with polygraph examinations.
