The Colorado Springs Sky Sox overcame a six-run deficit and dealt the Oklahoma City Dodgers a stunning 8-7 defeat in 10 innings Wednesday night at Security Service Field.

It was the fourth straight loss for the Dodgers (53-31), and the six-run comeback was the largest allowed by the team this season. The Dodgers are now 43-2 when leading after seven innings, with both losses to Colorado Springs (33-51).

The start of the game was delayed by 2 hours and 15 minutes due to rain and ended after midnight local time.

The Dodgers had built a 7-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth before the Sky Sox began their comeback. The Sky Sox got within 7-3 when Jason Rogers launched a two-run homer off the batter’s eye in center field. It was Colorado Springs’ first home run at home since May 29, ending a drought of 18 games and 155.2 innings.

The Sky Sox batted around in the eighth inning and scored four runs to tie the game. Kyle Wren and Matt Dominguez hit back-to-back two-run doubles to even the score, 7-7.

Two of the runs allowed were by Dodgers reliever Ryan Buchter, marking the first runs he allowed since May 12. It snapped a streak of 15 consecutive scoreless appearances, spanning 17 innings.

Darnell Sweeney led off the ninth with a double – his fourth hit and third extra-base hit of the game. Sweeney then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Darwin Barney. Corey Seager came up next and sent a fly ball to right field. Matt Long made the catch and threw out Sweeney at home trying to tag and score, keeping the game tied.

A wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning put the winning run at third base for the Sky sox, but Kyle Wren flied out to end the inning, sending the game to extras.

In the bottom of the 10th, the Sky Sox had runners at first and second base with one out when Yadiel Rivera singled to right field. Kyle Jensen’s throw to the plate beat the runner and was on line, but it got past catcher Austin Barnes, allowing Dominguez to score the winning run.

The Dodgers had controlled most of the game, and the Sky Sox never led until scoring the winning run. OKC took a 1-0 lead two batters into the ballgame. Sweeney led off with a double, and Barney followed with a RBI single.

When Sweeney stepped up next in the third inning, he pushed the Dodgers’ lead to 2-0 with a solo home run – his eighth of the season. Sweeney finished the game 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, and three runs scored.

The Sky Sox scored in the bottom of the third inning. Matt Long led off with a single, and two batters later, Sky Sox pitcher Drew Gagnon laid down a sacrifice bunt. OKC pitcher Eric Stults fielded the ball, but his throw to first was errant, allowing runners to reach second and third base. Elian Herrera then followed with a RBI groundout to make it 2-1.

The Dodgers responded with two runs in the top of the fourth. With runners at second and third with none out, Barnes hit grounder to Rivera. The ball went through Rivera’s legs, allowing both runners to score.

OKC plated three more runs in the fifth. Barney lined a double to deep left-center field, and Seager knocked a RBI single to push the lead to 6-1. Barnes picked up his second RBI later in the inning on a fielder’s choice to give the Dodgers a six-run lead.

The previous largest lead the Dodgers held in a loss this season was four runs in a 10-4 loss on May 13 in New Orleans. It was the first time Oklahoma City lost a game in which it lead by six runs since a 7-6 loss against Omaha on July 30, 2012.

The comeback by Colorado Springs also spoiled a solid start by Stults in his team debut. Stults allowed three runs (two earned) and four hits over six innings, with six strikeouts and no walks.

The win instead went to Austin Ross (1-0). Randy Fontanez (1-1) took the loss for OKC.

The Dodgers continue their series in Colorado Springs at 8:05 p.m. Central time Thursday night. Live coverage begins at 7:35 p.m. on AM 1340 “The Game”, 1340thegame.com, or through the iHeartRadio mobile app.
