Remains found in a shallow grave in Lincoln County a few months ago have been identified.

The medical examiner said the remains are those of Pierre Cleveland, who has been missing for a year. Oklahoma City police believe he was murdered in OKC, then buried off Highway 66 between Luther and Wellston.

News 9 first talked to Cleveland’s son from California as the family was searching for answers about his disappearance.

"Just out of nowhere, he stopped calling us,” Pierre Cleveland Junior said.

Cleveland Sr. vanished in July 2014 in Oklahoma City shortly after some men beat him up. According to the missing persons report, Cleveland had texted his sister on July 10 saying he had just been shot at.

The last thing he texted her was, “I love you sis."

Later that same day, Cleveland was supposed to fly out to California and see his sister, but he never showed up.

Then in April of 2015, a landowner found a skull in a wooded area. Search crews later discovered more of Cleveland’s remains and investigators said he had trauma to his body, indicating someone killed him.

His family fears the people who beat him up may have later killed him.

"We just want to bring closure to the family because, you know, it’s tearing us apart,” Cleveland Jr. told News 9.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named. If you have information about Cleveland's death, call the Homicide Tip Line at (405) 297-1200.
