An Oklahoma City police officer shot and killed a burglary suspect who reportedly pointed a gun at him early Monday morning.

It happened at about 1:40 a.m. in the 3300 block of S.W. 47th Street. According to police, a homeowner called officers to report that someone was breaking into a car. The homeowner reportedly confronted the suspect and chased him down the road.

Sgt. Jeff Lunow, a 16-year veteran with the Oklahoma City Police Department, responded to the scene and located the suspect in a backyard. Police said the suspect was armed and Sgt. Lunow ordered him to put down the weapon. However, the suspect pointed his gun at Sgt. Lunow instead. That’s when Sgt. Lunow shot the suspect.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the suspect’s identity at this time.

Sgt. Lunow has been placed on administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation.
