The recent rains and high water isn't just impacting lakes and our yards. The water is also driving creatures out from their normal habitats and into our homes.

Ants are marching into homes, one-by-one like the old nursery rhyme, this time to escape the rising water table; a line they live above.

“It's not even typically that they are looking for food. What they are probably doing is seeking shelter,” said Jesse Shaffer with Best Exterminator.

Since the beginning of May, exterminators say they've been overloaded with calls for ants inside people's homes. Shaffer says besides quarterly sprays around your home there simple updates you can do to keep these Pharaoh ants out.

Check your windows, doors frames and counters tops for cracks and gaps in the seal. Also, openings around pipes and waterlines are a prime spot for insects to get in. But another place you can fight back ants is outside.

“Ants especially are very well known to climb up the tree, especially in times like this, seeking shelter,” said Shaffer.

Simple home remedies can prevent the infestation headache of these six-legged pests.

Mosquitoes are already becoming a big problem as well due to all the rain. Residents are encouraged to use insect repellant with DEET when going outside and wear long sleeves. Plus, get rid of as much standing water you can, once it stops raining around here.
