Driver Killed After Crashing Into Tree in Oklahoma County

A driver was killed after running off the roadway on Interstate 40 and crashing into a tree in Oklahoma County, Sunday evening.

A driver was killed after running off the roadway on Interstate 40 and crashing into a tree in Oklahoma County, Sunday evening.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, it happened at 6:14 p.m. on I-40 westbound, one miles east of Choctaw Road in Oklahoma County.

A 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by 37-year-old Michael Ray Gunter of Tecumseh, was westbound on I-40 when it ran off the roadway to the left and struck a tree.

Gunter was pronounced dead at the scene. He was transported to the Medical Examiner's office in Oklahoma City.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
